The Foundation of Prayer: A God Who Cares
|
"I love the Lord because He hears my prayers and answers them. Because He bends down and listens, I will pray as long as I breathe!" (Psalm 116:1-2 The Living
Bible)
Prayer exists because God created it. And He created it out of His desire to have an active, personal relationship with His children. We can say that prayer is relating to God in a personal way.
The word "prayer" automatically takes on the connotation of supplication-of asking for something-but there are many other forms: gratitude, intercessory prayer, adoration, a silent yearning of the soul, a cry of grief or anger when we have lost something or someone dear. In fact, conversation with God can take on as many forms as a conversation with any human being, and should be just as natural.
Prayer is effective because God has chosen to hear when we call on Him. That's right, the Creator of the universe hears, answers, and responds to our prayers! While prayer doesn't change God's purposes, it can change God's actions.
